Environment & neurodevelopment
Anne Claire Binter
(Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGLOBAL))
Brain development is influenced by our environment. What roles do air pollutants, green spaces, or even the social environment play in shaping our brains? This talk explores how these factors influence neurodevelopment, with major implications for public health. Dive into the complex interactions between biology, ecology, and society to better understand and protect future generations.
Thinking about thoughts in the thinking brain
Martijn Wokke
(Universidad de Girona)
Intuitively, thinking and our thoughts seem straightforward, but from philosophical, psychological, and neuroscientific perspectives, they remain some of the greatest mysteries of the brain. Recent findings have shown that the brain can draw upon knowledge and previous experiences to construct a sort of 'guide map of the world'. This in turn enables the brain to rapidly generate internal simulations, thoughts, or inferences about 'what is happening'. Here, I will discuss how the brain gives rise to one of the most enigmatic and intimate aspects of ourselves: our thoughts.
